Director-General of the public authority of workforce Jamal Al-Dosary on Thursday reaffirmed commitment of the authority to protect expatriate workers under provisions of the labor law No. 6/2010.
 
"The law provides a range of benefits for workers such as increasing the number of paid annual leave days, including the sick, pilgrimage and birth-giving leave as well as the national holidays," he said in a press release.

Forty detainees of various nationalities being held at the Sulaibkhat police station went on hunger strike recently to protest prolonged detention. According to Kuwait Times report, the prisoners are waiting to be deported and have complained at the delay in processing their papers. Daily reported that the hunger strikers have spent more than a month in holding cells which has an area of 25 meters only, while the deportation department is refusing to receive them claiming that there are no tickets available on local airlines for their transportation out of the country.

Public authority for Manpower in coordination with Ministry of Interior will reconsider the mechanism of filing absconding cases against expats, local daily Arab Times reported citing Al-Qabas Arabic news paper.

According to reports, the current mechanism of filing absconding cases is unfair to expatriates as it enables the employers to blackmail and threatens the labors, because the residency of the laborer is cancelled after the employer files absconding case against him.

Ministry of Interior is currently studying the possibility of giving expatriates who have violated the residency law a chance to rectify their status and leave the country, local daily reported quoting informed sources.

According to source, the ministry has approved a comprehensive security plan to eliminate the phenomenon of marginal labourers and arrest wanted individuals, especially after discovering that many of them are involved in various crimes including murders, robberies and most recently the murder of a Pakistan guard in Jaber Al-Ahmad City.

Ahmadi governorate police carried out inspection campaigns against violators, resulting in the arrest of eight wanted persons and 11 without IDs and expired iqamas, while 20 vehicles were impounded. Four persons were arrested in an abnormal condition with seven bags with 60 bottles of locally-made liquor. They also had drugs for sale.
