Labor transfer grace peroid extended from 60 to 90 days
Kuwait: The Manpower Public Authority and Interior Ministry agreed to extend the grace period given to workers transferring from one sponsor to another from 60 days to 90 days, so that they could get a better chance to get suitable jobs without being reported absconding. Badriya Al-Mukaimi, Deputy Director of the Manpower Protection Department at the authority, made this announcement while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of attending a workshop titled ‘Introducing Labor Act 6/2010 to both Employers and Employees.’ Mukaimi also noted that both sides lack awareness about inspection processes and that they need more education in this regard to avoid fake absconding reports filed by some employers when an employee quits while having some disputes with his or her boss, who immediately files an absconding report maliciously.
“Therefore, the manpower authority conducts three inspections of any facility three different times to verify such reports,” she said, noting that the authority was seeking a way out to avoid the problems resulting from employers making absconding accusations.
