Fire at insulator warehouse under control

A fire at an insulator and air-conditioner warehouse at Al-Shuwaikh Industrial Area has been brought under control, a senior fire department official said.

A fireman was slightly injured in the fire which caused only limited damage at the storage facility, Director-General of the Kuwait Fire Service Directorate Maj. Gen. Yusuf Al-Ansari said in a statement to KUNA.

Five fire teams worked together to quench the fire, he said, adding that a probe team was investigating the fire in order to find relevant causes.

Only eight percent of the Kuwaiti population uses public transport facilities in the country, local daily reported quoting Director for Transportation at Kuwait Public Transport Company Abdullah Saleh. The total population of Kuwait is around 3.7 million people. It’s noted that the average percentage of public transport usage in most countries is 30 percent.

Runway collision with stray buffalo badly damages SpiceJet plane

Indian low-cost airline SpiceJet says that its plane hit a buffalo on the runway at Surat airport, causing enough damage it had to cancel flights.

"A stray buffalo hit one of our aircraft, flight SG-622 from Surat to New Delhi, carrying 140 passengers and six crew, on take-off roll at Surat airport," an airline spokesman said. "The buffalo was essentially invisible against a dark background."

Four Asian expatriates were arrested in possession of 800 bottles of locally brewed liquor in Jleeb Al- Shuyoukh area, reports Al- Rai daily. According to security sources, when the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received information about four Asian expatriates involved in selling liquor, a directive was issued to conduct necessary investigations and arrest them. Khaitan securitymen arrested them in Jleeb Al-Shuyoukh area in possession of 800 bottles of locally brewed liquor.

Hunger strike at deportation center

Forty detainees of various nationalities being held at the Sulaibkhat police station went on hunger strike recently to protest prolonged detention. According to Kuwait Times report, the prisoners are waiting to be deported and have complained at the delay in processing their papers. Daily reported that the hunger strikers have spent more than a month in holding cells which has an area of 25 meters only, while the deportation department is refusing to receive them claiming that there are no tickets available on local airlines for their transportation out of the country.
