KRCS distributes aid to some 80,000 displaced Syrian families in Lebanon

Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) said Tuesday it had provided humanitarian aid to some 80,000 displaced Syrian families in Lebanon since the crisis broke out.

The Society is continuously providing aid to Syrian refugees especially in Jordan and Lebanon, where the majority of Syrians seek shelter, Head of the field team Dr. Musaad Al-Anezi told Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) upon the conclusion of the humanitarian aid campaign which started last week.

35,000 traffic citations issued in last week campaigns

The Operations Department recorded around 35,408 traffic citations durng the one week campaign from Oct 25-31. During the campaign, officials impounded 1,139 vehicles and 46 motorbikes.

Traffic officers from the Capital issued 1,060 traffic citations, seized 238 vehicles and arrested two offenders, and in Hawalli, officers registered 6,329 traffic citations, detained one motorist and impounded 161 vehicles, while they registered 4,329 citations, impounded 85 vehicles, and detained 5 people in Farwaniya.

One in every five people in Kuwait ‘mentally ill’

One in five people will become mentally ill during their lifetime, according to World Health Organization statistics. The Ministry of Health is now working on a new awareness campaign to shed light on this issue and help people in Kuwait deal effectively with those suffering from mental health difficulties. “Mental health is just as important as physical and spiritual well-being,” said Lulu Al-Rodaini, leader of local NGO Human Line and a member of the steering committee charged with the awareness campaign.

Fire at insulator warehouse under control

A fire at an insulator and air-conditioner warehouse at Al-Shuwaikh Industrial Area has been brought under control, a senior fire department official said.

A fireman was slightly injured in the fire which caused only limited damage at the storage facility, Director-General of the Kuwait Fire Service Directorate Maj. Gen. Yusuf Al-Ansari said in a statement to KUNA.

Five fire teams worked together to quench the fire, he said, adding that a probe team was investigating the fire in order to find relevant causes.

The Kuwait public transport system is used by only 8 percent of people

Only eight percent of the Kuwaiti population uses public transport facilities in the country, local daily reported quoting Director for Transportation at Kuwait Public Transport Company Abdullah Saleh. The total population of Kuwait is around 3.7 million people. It’s noted that the average percentage of public transport usage in most countries is 30 percent.

Public authority for Manpower in coordination with Ministry of Interior will reconsider the mechanism of filing absconding cases against expats, local daily Arab Times reported citing Al-Qabas Arabic news paper.

According to reports, the current mechanism of filing absconding cases is unfair to expatriates as it enables the employers to blackmail and threatens the labors, because the residency of the laborer is cancelled after the employer files absconding case against him.

Kuwaiti divers lifted four tons of waste from seabed off Fahaheel beach, as part of a large-scale campaign to clean up the national beaches.

Walid Al-Fadhel, the head of the team, affiliated to the Environmental Voluntary Foundation (EVF), told KUNA on Wednesday that the abandoned items dumped into the waters included plastic, rusted metallic pieces and pipes, all considered quite harmful to the marine environment and living creatures' habitat.

Ministry of Interior is currently studying the possibility of giving expatriates who have violated the residency law a chance to rectify their status and leave the country, local daily reported quoting informed sources.

According to source, the ministry has approved a comprehensive security plan to eliminate the phenomenon of marginal labourers and arrest wanted individuals, especially after discovering that many of them are involved in various crimes including murders, robberies and most recently the murder of a Pakistan guard in Jaber Al-Ahmad City.

Security raid in Ahmadi net 19 expats

Ahmadi governorate police carried out inspection campaigns against violators, resulting in the arrest of eight wanted persons and 11 without IDs and expired iqamas, while 20 vehicles were impounded. Four persons were arrested in an abnormal condition with seven bags with 60 bottles of locally-made liquor. They also had drugs for sale.
